Jeff Kane: Waiting on the mail(box repairs)

Our neighborhood’s bank of 32 mailboxes hadn’t been delivered to for three weeks, at the time of writing this letter. Nevada City post office staff told us that the boxes were illegally opened by parties unknown, and they’re hoping for a prompt fix.

One supervisor said last week that the United States Postal Service locksmith might visit from Sacramento early this week, but that didn’t happen. Meanwhile the post office holds our mail for on-site pickup. So our dozens of families line up there, which inconveniences us, other patrons, and the post office staff.

We are optimistic, though, that this agency of a government able to send people to the moon might find a way to solve this problem before the end of the decade.
