Irene Frazier: If not us, who? Support Measure B

As a former Nevada County educator and current school volunteer, I ask all citizens who believe in the importance of education to vote “Yes on Measure B.”

During recent tough economic times, the Nevada Joint Union High School District received no state funding for major infrastructure projects. As a result, our high schools have begun deteriorating faster than their operation budgets can handle. Among other things, roofs, water and gas lines, and heating systems need repair and replacement. Measure B will fix this.

In addition, Measure B will update our career and technical facilities for the 21st century, helping prepare students for jobs in science, technology, and engineering. I believe a technologically educated work force will bring business to Nevada County and improve our local economy.

Repairing our schools before they deteriorate any further and improving our ability to provide students with technological education makes fiscal sense. It also sends a message to our students that we value their contribution to our future.

As John F. Kennedy said, “If not us, who? If not now, when?”

Please join me in voting “Yes on B.”
