Gloria Molin: Is our country getting dumber?

After reading the first few paragraphs of the publisher’s column, I knew immediately what movie he was talking about.

I was visiting my daughter, when we started watching this movie. After 30 minutes or so, I couldn’t handle it anymore. As was mentioned, it had to be one of the dumbest movies ever.

However, it did get me thinking about whether this could be a future possibility. The educated people are having fewer children, and the less educated seem to be having more. I guess the solution would be to make sure that all of America’s children are better educated, as we cannot afford to let this country be manipulated and run by a bunch of morons. I believe to be of average intelligence, and want my country’s leaders to be more intelligent than me. They don’t have to be my buddy, just someone who can intelligently lead, and not belittle anyone who challenges them.

Is this asking too much?

Critical thinking should be taught in all grades. So many problems besides COVID. The first responsibility of schools is the teaching of the 3 R’s: reading, (w)riting, and ‘rithmetic.
