Gayle Denney: State of Jefferson a waste of time, money

“New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.” — (Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1, U.S. Constitution)

My recent research has shown that there have been at least 75 efforts to create new states in the U.S., all failed. Currently, another is taking place locally: without the consent of the State of California and the U.S. Congress, this new “State of Jefferson” will not occur. Who thinks the U.S. Congress would vote for this part of California to have two more senators?

It is true that people in rural areas in many large states often feel that they do not have the ear of their legislators. Write letters. Support your candidate. Run for office. But efforts toward the State of Jefferson are a waste of time and money, folks!
