Gary Palmer: The green revolution has its costs

George Boardman made a good point that “Not everybody in Calif. can afford the Democrat’s green revolution” (The Union, Oct. 5). Those who can’t afford $70K Teslas should not have to subsidize the wealthy techies.

But our contributions to the Silicon Valley lifestyle are also supporting the birth of a cleaner transportation industry that may give us all a fresher gulp of air and create some jobs, too.

Smart birds don’t crap in their own nest. George likes nuclear energy. We fear nuclear for good reasons: Fukushima, Chernobel, Love Canal and Cancer Alley. But we may have to get over it so long as populations keep growing and the grandkids need more food, housing, and transportation.

If we had better population control, we wouldn’t be forced to pay for someone else’s Volts, Leafs and Teslas.
