Cooper Reid: Measure W is about property rights

Regardless of how you feel about marijuana cultivation, Measure W is not just about banning marijuana cultivation as much as it is about property rights.

I am old enough that I still remember when we had a few rights. I have seen those rights slowly dwindle away throughout my life. The thing that bothers me the most about Measure W is, if passed we are allowing the government to tell us how we can use our land. Ultimately allowing more government control.

So this month it is about marijuana, but what’s next? Grape vines? After all they do require water, pesticides, fertilizers, and produce an undesirable odor (to some). Perhaps the board of supervisors should make all the grape growers in the area move their crops into greenhouses. If the BOS can get the people to pass Measure W, what’s next? Zucchini squash?

Don’t give up your property rights, Vote no on Measure W.
