Chuck Petch: The real truth about Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders seeks to restore and expand the benefits the World War II Greatest Generation created for us. Here’s what they did that he wants to restore and build upon:

• Rebuild crumbling roads, bridges, and infrastructure to create jobs, like the 1930’s WPA.

• Restore low-cost college education, similar to the GI Bill, but for everybody.

• Protect and strengthen Social Security so we can all retire with dignity.

• Protect and expand Medicare to cover everyone, so no one goes without affordable healthcare.

• Pay for all of the above by returning the tax rate on top incomes to levels similar to post-World War II. This shifts the burden off the middle class and onto the very wealthy who can afford it. The result will be growth of a new, stronger middle class, just as we saw in the 1950s.

So you see that what Bernie wants to do isn’t radical at all. Our Greatest Generation did it, and we can restore what they created by voting for Bernie Sanders for president.
