Carole Chapman: School board memember Campbell has a right to an opinion

I do not know Linda Campbell personally. But I have been following The Union’s coverage of her actions. And I am disappointed by their critique of her. The last time I read our Constitution, our first amendment right is our right to free speech.

Has that been changed and no one told me?

I think she was right in calling out our local Tea Party for daring to march in the Fourth of July parade. I mean this radical group has been waging a war on our government for eight years now.

I think everyone can agree with that. And the Tea Party’s overreaction calling the police, because they felt threatened for being called out for the hypocrites that they are, is very telling.

Now I read that the high school board is thinking of censuring her for once again for exercising her right to free speech.

Oh, “she was mad” is not a good enough reason to censure anyone in my opinion. And VP Jim Adams doing this the last day of his term looks like a cowardly act, to me; shame on him.

I’ve lived in Grass Valley since 1976 and one consistent complaint about downtown is about the problem with the lack of parking. We’ve had signs, meters, meter maids and even talk of a multi-story parking…
