Bob Larive: See you in Auburn

In regard to the opposition to the Dorsey Marketplace project by Mr. Gerald Gates and his group, the “Keep Grass Valley Great” group is working against community interests.

We need retail development, jobs, housing and reasons to not go down the hill. Keep Grass Valley Great is going to hurt the future of their members — “homeowners, employees in town, young families, retired people, and local business owners” — and all the rest of us.

Russell Jeter’s plan is a step forward for Grass Valley and Nevada County.

I do have to agree with Mr. Gates about traffic at Dorsey Drive and Highway 49. Just yesterday, at rush hour, I had two cars in front of me at the light. Give me a break.

As to putting “mom and pops” out of business, just who do they think will be operating the businesses in his center? Even chains are usually owned by local franchisees and will employ local workers.

Grass Valley is nice, but not great. But it could be. Until then, we will see you in Auburn or …
