Bob Larive: Need help cleaning up our marijuana mess
We have a great Sheriff’s Office here in Nevada County but we need to give them, and our police, more tools when it comes to illegal marijuana in our county.
We also have a majority conservative Board of Supervisors, but they seem to be dragging their feet when it comes to anti-marijuana legislation. I respect and support them all but they don’t seem interested in solving this huge problem that affects all of us. Yuba County took a bold step in banning outdoor grows and severely limiting indoor production. We need to do the same.
Marijuana is a gateway drug and, by the way, it is illegal. The people growing it here are criminals and many of them are from out of state and not the individuals we want in our county. Why do we continue to put up with it? I keep asking that question.
On a personal note we have a neighbor whose property was searched and was found to have more than 1,500 marijuana plants and other probably illegal items. That was in June of this year and it appears he is already back in the marijuana business on the same property. Maybe that is only a rumor but I wouldn’t doubt it with our lack of prosecution and legislation here in the county. It is almost like the powers that be just don’t care or is it now our largest cash crop and don’t mess with that?
Maybe some very limited medical growth by the individual who “needs” it can be allowed but that should be all. If we continue to turn a blind eye to marijuana production what is next? I am not a fan of the feds but maybe we could use some help cleaning up our mess.
