Bill Gainer: Yes, we are against W

We feel pushed to the conclusion that “Measure W” has become a smoke screen used by senior law enforcement to contain the criticism of their inability to gain control of what appears to be a growing problem of illegal drug trafficking in our community.

Illegal activity is illegal activity — do the job, deal with it.

We do not believe criminalizing the growing, cultivation, ownership or delivery of medical marijuana will deter illegal drug trafficking in Nevada County. We need to have law enforcement focused on the problem. We do not believe making accusations, pointing fingers, decrying abuse and criminalizing the medical needs of the community will derail illegal drug trafficking in any fashion.

Kae St. Marie and I have grown old in Nevada County, we have always felt blessed, safe and protected by our local law enforcement agencies. However, we do not feel reassured by Sheriff Royal’s and the Board of Supervisors’ current pursuit. Perhaps bigger change is needed — a change in personnel.

These are our feelings and our feelings only. We will vote No on “W.”
