Bailey Hansen: We need to work together

We need to work together

I was very disgusted to read the “All Lives Matter” Other Voices article written by Jim Goetsch in your Aug. 8 issue.

While it is very important to examine different viewpoints when discussing a controversial issue, I couldn’t help but notice the blatant racial stereotyping he demonstrated all the while claiming he and his political party are not racist and care more about “black lives” than an opposing party.

I particularly enjoyed how he included that abortion is such a huge factor in the death of “innocent ‘black’ lives.” There is a monumental difference between unarmed civilians beings being gunned down by police officers, and abortion. Also, this mind set of always trying to one-up the other, this mind set of always defining each other by our differences, has got to stop.

We are all people, with fears, hopes and dreams. If our country is ever going to move forward we must learn to work together instead of tearing each other apart.
