A little help from my friends

There’s a significant stretch of the Deer Creek Canyon that lies between the creek and the far edge of the parking lot behind the Miners Foundry and Nevada City Winery.

Previously we brushed out upper reaches, and discovered an inordinate amount of trash, lumber, and various forms of detritus.

Joe Griggs Jr. of Robinson Enterprises generously provided us with a crane and specially outfitted 550-gallon drums attached to a heavy duty cable.

Tim Robinson and Ryan Hughes operated the equipment. In a few hours we were done, rather than the days it would have taken without the help of Robinson Enterprises.

Jim Morris and Richard Thomas, individuals who have been working on similar fire-safety projects around town, also came through big time.

They slugged it out down slope, filling up barrel after barrel of garbage of all forms and attaching larger items directly to the cable, to be hoisted out.

John Chase, general manager of the Nevada City Winery, transferred the materials once up on top, and hauled it all away.

We deeply appreciate everyone pitching in. With a lot of help from our friends, a seemingly impossible task became quite manageable.
