Letter writer needs to visit Web site

A letter appeared recently in your newspaper stating the NEA is pushing a potentially damaging view of Sept. 11 into schools’ lesson plans. Though the writer didn’t disclose his source of information, I’m sure he is referring to an article in the Washington Times.

A teacher and pediatric psychologist were interviewed by Ellen Sorokin for her story “NEA plan for 9-11 not backed by teachers.” Both of the interviewees complained their quotes were taken out of context and said Sorokin claimed to be interviewing them for a story on Sept. 11 history.

Both had high praise for NEA’s public Remember September 11 Web site, which was developed by classroom teachers and other education professionals. The Web site was designed to help parents and educators deal with the full range of issues and emotions surrounding the first anniversary of Sept. 11.

Perhaps [the letter writer] would find it helpful to visit the Web site and not rely on some reporter who never viewed or evaluated the site herself.
