Empire Mine State Historic Park tours take place daily. Bourn Cottage tour 1 p.m., mine yard tour 2 p.m. Park admission is $3 for 17 and older, $1-for children 6 to 16 years; children are free. Workshop on Contemporary Music takes place the first Tuesday of the month at Studio 131 in Grass Valley, 7:30 p.m. Jay Sydeman will present a series exploring the “nuts and bolts” of composing music. $10-per session.

Capoeira Lessons at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, 7-9 p.m. Brazilian art form that blends elements of dance, music, rituals, acrobatics and fighting. $8.

The South Yuba River State Park at Bridgeport is open daily from sunrise to sunset and the gates open at 10 a.m. The Visitor Center is open Thursday-Sunday at 11 a.m. 432-2546.

Tuesday Forum Film Series continues with “Power and Terror: Noam Chomsky, in Our Times.” The series is Tuesdays at the Magic Theatre in Nevada City, 7:35 p.m. $4-donation. 107 Argall St. 478-0699.

William Thomas will be discussing his book “The Avalanche Murders” at the Book Seller in Grass Valley, 5 p.m. Free. Refreshments served. 272-2131.
