Late start couldn’t stifle hotel project

Remember a few years ago, when there was much hullabaloo brought about by Mark Johnson and (not even) a handful of cohorts trying to stifle the hotel project on North Auburn Street? Well, has anyone gone by lately to see how beautifully this project is coming along? Gone is that weed-covered mini-mountain of dirt, the shack next door and all the unkempt area in the back. Instead, there are beautiful buildings, each an integral part of the suite concept coming together to form a much-needed business in the area. When you see how nice it looks already, you’ll realize that the landscaping to finish it off will be beautiful as well. There is going to be a gorgeous, large fountain that you won’t believe – I’ve seen it.

The only regretful thing about this project is that it couldn’t begin when originally planned. Think of the bed taxes the city would have reaped. I worked for Steve and Kathy Racz while the “stifling” was taking place and I can tell you, we had phone calls almost daily, wanting to book rooms. One day we had five requests! This is going to be a most wonderful asset to Grass Valley.
