Large headlines on letters inflammatory

When The Union’s Opinion page sports a title in large type, it can easily be assumed to be an editorial statement. Many people will read only titles and skip content and believe what they read to be true.

On July 22, the headline “FCAT is a purveyor of left-wing propaganda” was featured prominently on the Opinion page. That statement, as well as the content of the letter that followed, is inaccurate and inflammatory.

I urge The Union to exercise more responsibility in choosing headlines. In fact, there should be only one large headline for letters, and that is “Letters to the Editor.”
