Knecht general manager of Bear River Park District

Former county Supervisor Karen Knecht has a new job: general manager of the Bear River Recreation and Park District.

“We decided to bring in somebody with good, solid administrative abilities who knows the district,” said park district board member Bill Litchfield. “As a board, we wanted to get the district more business-like.”

Knecht is the district’s first full-time employee. She’s helping the district gear up for a yet-to-be-scheduled election to see if property owners will support an annual parcel fee, probably of $20.

“I believe in assessments as long as you can show people where (the money’s) going and what it’s for and you’re accountable,” Knecht said. The district has “got good programs. People like them and they use them.”

Officials at the south county park district often complain of being cash-strapped.

The district only gets about $12,000 in tax revenue. Other funding sources include grants and fees from programs.

Litchfield said Knecht will help identify other sources of grant funding.

Knecht was hired as an independent contractor and is being paid $2,500 a month.
