Keep rehab center out

The horror of hearing a drug and alcohol rehab center just down the street from my home. The second blow was the article in The Union on May 4 stating that the Grass Valley School District superintendent “… would have to see the application to see if it would pose a risk” and went on to say ” … it is a generalization to say any treatment center pose a risk.”

This isn’t any center; it is a drug and alcohol center with anywhere from 24 to 30 beds that is being proposed. A drug and alcohol center any closer than two to three miles from Lyman Gilmore and Scotten School poses a risk for all students and the local neighborhood. Lyman Gilmore and Scotten School is at most a quarter mile from the proposed center. The school grounds are right across the street. Speaking of Cedar Avenue, it is a dead end street and maybe 10 feet wide in some places. When and how are these “clients” going to arrive at the proposed “treatment center”? What do you think the impact of that many vehicles on a one-lane dead end road is going to be? And let us not forget the students from Lyman Gilmore and Scotten School who use Cedar Avenue every day going to and from school.

The bottom line is, a drug and alcohol treatment center should not be permitted in a residential neighborhood anywhere in this county and never in such close proximity to two of the largest schools in the Grass Valley District.
