Keep God’s words in context

I would like to comment on the letter “Signs of the times” regarding Bible quotations of the Rough and Ready Baptist Church. It is not wise “to see Christianity” based on out-of-context, one-line quotations from the Bible. The context of the Bible is that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). The love of God and the seriousness of sin are revealed in the cross of Christ at calvary as in no other time or place. If anyone will honestly ask God to reveal the meaning of the cross to them personally, He will do it. If anyone looks, believes, and receives him and what he reveals, he will give them a new life in him. He has “finished” redemption of corporate humanity at the cross, and all he asks us, as individuals, is to receive, by faith, the gift he has already given to all. It is undoubtedly the bargain of eternity.

The word “fear” is defined when referring to the supreme being as “being in awe; profound reverence,” not a fearful being to be dreaded.
