Just the facts

I take no pride in writing this, but we have to stop talking about universal health care without citing numbers posted on the Internet. Terry Fieldhouse (March 3) wrote an entire page without any supporting numbers. Exactly how much do hospitals spend? Insurers? How much do we spend in premiums? What do the uninsured and illegal immigrants cost? What is the impact of losing hundreds of thousands of well-paid middle class jobs currently supplied by insurers? What is the long-term cost of hiring hundreds of thousands of new state employees and office leases? Annual cost increases? Higher prices will come because of increased premiums to small businesses. I want to see a business plan with all the facts. People rave about Canada and England’s system until they talk to actual citizens. I’ve talked to them at a convention, and they hate it. Here’s a dirty little secret: Everyone in government talks a good game about universal care because it sounds good and gets them elected. But y’all know the math doesn’t work. And math doesn’t lie. Please, no more talk, just facts and numbers.
