Joe Cain Day never meant to be family affair

Ask any longtime local. The Joe Cain Day parade was never intended to be a family affair for the kids. It was intended to be a Mardi Gras in Nevada City. The very expression “Raising Cain” expresses the temperament of the event. Tourists come because of the craziness. When that’s gone, so will the tourists.

Move the whole event to Washington or North San Juan, where the fire departments can have water fights again, and where adults can dance in the street and have some good old crazy fun, like the old days.
