It’s unaffordable housing

Wednesday’s article concerning affordable housing in Grass Valley would have been better labeled “Unaffordable housing issue won’t go away.” Of the 272 projects listed, only 44 are considered “affordable.” With the median cost of a new home stated as $475,000, where does this put the price of an “affordable home?” What factors are used to define “affordable?” The median income stated for Grass Valley is $28,000. This income is certainly not enough to purchase adequate housing or even to rent a suitable living space. The younger families are being forced out of the area to the detriment of the local schools and merchants.
