Question of the day for the various school districts: Why can’t you all be on the same schedule, especially when it comes to days off for the children?

Do you have any idea how this impacts families when one child is off and two others go to school? At the present time, we have three special-ed children, one at Deer Creek, one at Gold Run and two at Union Hill. We have one at home and two at school today (Monday). Today the high school and Nevada Union have no classes for students. It is a staff development day for teachers. And what about the families in which one or both parents work for a school district? It really messes up their schedules and day care, etc.

What is so difficult about the various school districts communicating in the early spring and coordinating the days off for students? Personally, we think it would be quite easy to do unless we are missing something here. We have spoken to several of the school districts, and they all say, “We know it is a problem and would like to fix it, but not everyone will cooperate and part of the problem is the teachers association.”

Well, school districts and teachers association, if you really care about your students and their families, please get together and fix this. We live in such a busy world and the more time families can have together, the better our world will be. Let’s all work together to take away one less stressor on our families, and schools. We as parents would gladly assist in any way to create a unified school schedule for the 2002/2003 school year. We are sure there are many other parents out there who would welcome this change and gladly assist.
