Iraqi war is a just one

Many of our neighbors in Nevada County continue to protest the war in Iraq and refer to it as “Bush’s War.” Four months ago, the president was re-elected by a considerable margin, and every American who voted for the president was knowingly casting his vote for the prosecution of the war. The simple truth is that ” by the rules of the democracy under which we live ” the war in Iraq is “America’s War.”

For decades, the governments of Iraq, Syria, Libya and Iran have culled terrorist offspring from the fertile fields of Islamic extremism, and then feigned ignorance of their existence. By manipulating religious fervor and hatred, the tyrants who have ruled those nations have slaughtered innocent civilians throughout the world for over 30 years. Why? Because three wars with Israel had taught Iraq and Syria that they could never defeat real soldiers on real battlefields.

Whether an Islamic terrorist is from Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Palestine, or anywhere else on earth, their actions are taken in the name of a hostile Pan-Arabian world. When the states that have long fostered this hostility have the war brought to their doorstep, their fondness for terrorism will fade.
