Intruder beats woman

A 52-year-old woman had to be transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Thursday morning after being assaulted by a home intruder.

At 2:20 a.m., she was sleeping on a couch in her residence on the 11000 block of North Ponderosa Way, according to Nevada County Sheriff’s Office records, when she heard dogs barking in her back yard.

Soon after, according to the records, a door opened and a man wearing a ski mask, gloves and equipped with a heavy flashlight was standing next to her.

“The suspect started striking her on the head and face,” Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Jones said. “She fell to the couch, and the suspect put a pillow over her face.”

Jones said the suspect then went into a back room, where the woman kept several jars full of her 33-year-old son’s marijuana.

The suspect took all of the marijuana, Jones said.

The suspect then returned to the living room and hit the woman again after she moved.

After the suspect left, the woman called her son, who alerted authorities.

A Penn Valley ambulance transported the woman to the hospital, where she was treated for unspecified injuries.
