Housing handouts are wrong answer

I guess I’m heartless. I care more about bringing jobs to Nevada County rather than more affordable housing, but this is not the Board of Supervisors’ job. This is up to business owners and landlords.

The housing here is reasonable and affordable. I moved here from the Bay Area because my husband and I wanted to be homeowners. We couldn’t do it there. My mortgage is cheaper than rent in the Bay Area. My husband still works in the Bay Area so we can afford our house.

I am not for affordable housing hand-outs. What is so wrong with people working harder if they need to, so they can have the better things in life? We recently went from a two-income household to a one-income household. No one has made our housing more affordable. So until we start giving hand-outs to everyone this is a bad idea.

We as a country have made a welfare state by these types of programs and it needs to stop. I hardly ever agree with the Board of Supervisors but a park sounds better than a housing hand-out. If they can’t afford the housing, let me give them some advice from my Mum: “You work two, three jobs whatever it takes to provide for yourself and your family.” Let me also say we were poor growing up and Mum did often work two jobs being a single parent trying to provide for my brother and me. She never took a hand-out for anything because if you don’t work for it, you don’t deserve it. You didn’t earn it.
