Horne not a victim

In rushing to defend Sue Horne, The Union misrepresented or omitted some facts in “Rescinding decision was good move” (Editorial, June 3).

While [Robin] Sutherland admonished the crowd to remain respectful several times, the discussion re Freedle’s appointment was “halted” only once – when Horne walked out of the chambers, after the public laughed at the reasons she gave for selecting Freedle in the first place. The meeting recessed because Horne left, not because the crowd became excessively unruly. In fact, The Union failed to mention an appreciative voice that called out “Thank you, Sue!” when Horne later voted to rescind Freedle’s appointment.

Also omitted was Horne’s comment re Freedle’s replacement. When Horne’s motion that the second choice of the three conservative supes be appointed failed 2-2, Van Zant moved that Joy Massey, first choice of the two liberal supes, be selected (also failed 2-2). Horne’s comment re Van Zant’s motion was, “If we don’t get our second choice, you’re not getting your first!” What kind of leadership example is that?

Sue Horne’s heavy sighs and death stares at the public who voice views contrary to hers in chambers are offensive to watch. She is not a victim here.

Sharon Seck: Kudos to Yuba Docs

I cannot say enough good things about Yuba Docs, our urgent care facility in Grass Valley. Saturday about noon, a close relative had a close encounter with a chainsaw resulting in a pretty deep-looking gash…
