History lesson

The writer of the screed, “Experts on everything” (May 29), accuses “pseudo-intellectual lefties” of being experts on virtually everything … or at least thinking they are. And he ends his letter with “… I’m thankful my father’s generation had the guts to fight and kill regimes who did not declare war on us.”

I guess, as a pseudo-intellectual lefty, I should point out that our writer has attempted to distort facts in order to create historic justification for our unilateral declaration of war in Iraq.

For the writer’s information, Japan bombed our fleet in Pearl Harbor on Dec.7, 1941, well before the U.S. had made any declaration of war. And Germany literally declared war on the U.S. in the week following. Perhaps our writer believes that bombing our fleet is not equivalent to declaring war. Perhaps he can learn from the lefties.
