Hike opposing SPI’s timber harvest set

Environmentalists will hold a hike Sunday to rally opposition to a Sierra Pacific Industries’ timber harvest planned near Milton Creek in Sierra County along the Pacific Crest Trail.

“Have you seen an old-growth forest before? See it before it’s too late,” said Peter Elias, the San Juan Ridge environmentalist organizing Sunday’s hike.

Elias described the trip as a wonderful day hike just outside Sierra City, with a magnificent view of the Sierra Buttes.

Participants can car pool at 8:30 a.m. from the Nevada County Rood Center, or they can meet at 10 a.m. at the PCT trailhead near Wild Plum campground outside of Sierra City.
