High school seniors sought for ‘Real Women’ essay contest

Feb. 10 is the deadline for public high school seniors from Western Nevada County to enter the Northern Mines “Real Women” Creative Writing Competition.

The 13th annual essay competition will be in celebration of National Women’s History Month in March. Senior students have been asked to write about a specific woman who is living today in our local area. What makes this woman important to others? What makes this woman important to the student? What contributions has she made to our community? These are a few of the questions posed to the students. The woman they write about could be a friend, relative or a woman from the community they feel they would like to interview to learn more about her accomplishments.

The essay competition is cosponsored by the Grass Valley Elks and The Union. This year’s awards dinner will be held March 22, at the Grass Valley Elks Hall.

For more information or reservations, call Dee at 273-0257 or Gail at 272-2141.
