Here’s why Jesus really died

A recent letter states the belief that Jesus died because he was trying to protect the poor and sick and it got him into trouble. The Bible clearly shows us that it was for the express purpose of dying on the cross that Christ came to earth. His death was not an accident brought about by him “getting into trouble.” In Hebrews 2:9 it says that Jesus was “made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death … that he by the grace of God should taste death for everyone.”

Whatever Unitarian Universalism is it is not the Gospel of Christ. Christianity is not a do-it-yourself proposition. It is God offering to give us the life-giving power of His spirit to free us from the cycle of sin and death (Romans 8:2). Ultimately, the question is whether our spiritual authority is the finite mind of man, or the infinite mind of a sovereign God as revealed in His holy word.
