Headline didn’t speak for all contractors

I am a licensed general contractor, and I take exception to your recent headline, “Contractors blast incumbents” (Oct. 26).

This story was about the political action committee (PAC) of the local contractors association and the committee’s endorsement of certain candidates. I’m sure the PAC would acknowledge that they do not speak for every contractor in Nevada County because, believe it or not, many of us contractors do not “blast the incumbents” at all.

I have no argument with these groups expressing their opinions; indeed, I have faith that most association members have hopes about the future of our county that are similar to mine, even if we disagree on how to achieve them.

But I do believe the story, and especially the headline, was misleading and inflammatory. For instance, if your front-page headline had said: “Wealthy PAC endorses pro-growth candidates,” I’m sure you would have had some complaints because it would have been equally misleading.

I do hope you will make the appropriate apologies.
