Goodbye and Godspeed to Ronald Reagan

The passing of one of this country’s most revered leaders has given millions of Americans pause to reflect on how one’s determination can accomplish great things. Ronald Reagan’s legacy defines a man who saw and believed the very best about America. His optimism lifted and inspired us to do great things and achieve more.

Reagan was a hero and a man of the people. One of his first jobs was that of a lifeguard, leaving his mark on the lives of those he saved. How fitting that he would one day be a great protector, not only of our nation, but also of the people of the world. He had the courage to stand up and denounce evil when others sought appeasement.

Reagan was a man of great faith, both in God, and in our nation. He brought that faith to the forefront at a time when America was adrift. He reminded us of the blessings we share just to live in the greatest nation on earth. Where there was pessimism, he instilled hope. Where there was division, he inspired love. His love for America called us to mutual respect. He gave us his best and did not accept anything less in return.

Although in many ways Ronald Reagan was lost to us years ago, we are now finally able to say goodbye. As we mourn his passing, we must celebrate his life and be assured that one of America’s greatest heroes has left for us a treasured legacy, this “shining city on a hill.” Let us endeavor to be worthy of this great gift.
