Goforth Anniversary

Derald and Betty Goforth will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on May 31.

The Goforths met in Creston, Iowa in 1941. They married the following year and left with friends for California the day after their wedding to settle in Oakland. Within the year, they returned to Creston where Mr. Goforth joined the Navy and Mrs. Goforth stayed with his family. After boot camp, Mr. Goforth was sent to Treasure Island in San Francisco. Mrs. Goforth soon followed, along with her sisters and a brother. She and her siblings resided in the Bay Area while Mr. Goforth served in both World War II and the Korean War. After his military service, the couple moved to Vallejo where Mr. Goforth worked at Mare Island Shipyard.

Mr. and Mrs. Goforth had three children, James, Sandra and Jeffry, which they raised in Vallejo. After their children were grown, the couple moved to Nevada City in 1982 where they still reside. They are active members in the Nevada City United Methodist Church as well as the Elks and American Legion. They have four grandchildren, Todd, Shanna, Lacey and Lyndsay, and three great-grandchildren, Kelsy, Gavin and Justin.
