Give them a voice

On Oct. 4, Mark Meckler (Other Voices) wrote that the leaders of Islam need to denounce the barbaric tactics of the likes of Abu al-Zarqawi. Agreed, but how much coverage will the American news media give such statements? They’d rather play up the barbarity, not the real spokesmen of Islam.

Also, Americans themselves need to proactively search out these answers rather than just wait for somebody else to tell it like it is. Remember the pope denounced the invasion of Iraq, but does anybody in the U.S. care? I read an online Iranian newspaper from Tehran (English version) that denounced terrorism as purely destructive. All the Middle Easterners I know are against terrorism, but will any news organ give them a voice and not drown them out with fear-mongering? The control of information flow is in itself a weapon, and this is not new.
