Give the unborn a chance to be

It’s time for a wake-up call. We have all heard about human sacrifice in ancient civilizations. Reading the Old Testament prophets we find that one of the reasons for Israel’s exile and subsequent sufferings was the sacrificing of their children to strange gods. Our initial reaction is one of disgust. We think to ourselves that these people deserved to die. We wonder how anyone could do such a thing.

I don’t see how this generation is any different. We keep our children from being conceived and if we fail in doing that, we murder them before they can be born. We sacrifice the lives that await their chance to come into the world and make a difference. We deny another human being the life experience that is their due. We sacrifice our children to the idols of sensual pleasures, homosexuality, casual sex, and material wealth. We practice every conceivable way not to let anyone or anything interfere in our pursuit of happiness. Sure, we have such good reasons, but what reason could there be to deny another generation their right to exist and to experience the wonders of being alive.

Our scientific and political culture is built around keeping us free from regenerating the life force. The 65-and-over population in the United States could increase nearly 80 percent by 2025, but there will be just 15 percent more working-age adults and 15 percent more children younger than 15, according to bureau demographers. Compare that to the Arab nations where the 0-14 age group averages about 45 percent. Our birth rate is half that of the Arab nations. And we are only 5 percent of the world’s population.

And now we have emergency contraception available without a prescription. Sex sells and the whole world is buying, and so I ask, “Are we having fun yet?”
