Girlfriend given 9 months for running over boyfriend

A woman who drove over her boyfriend last year, leaving him with serious internal injuries and costly medical bills, was sentenced Friday in Nevada County Superior Court to nine months in jail and three years’ probation.

Brandi S. Manley, a Grass Valley-area resident now living in Auburn, also must undergo a year of drug treatment.

The 29-year-old was convicted of hit-and-run with injury for a Dec. 14 incident on McCarter Way, near McCourtney Road.

The couple had been drinking at a house there before Manley attempted to drive to a friend’s house as her then-boyfriend, Kyle Blanchard, stood in the way of her vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

She drove over Blanchard, rendering him unconscious, crushing his pelvis, injuring his colon, and causing other internal injuries, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

He was hospitalized for more than four months at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, and he claimed one of his bills exceeded $600,000, according to a Probation Department presentence report.

Blanchard didn’t have insurance, and it wasn’t immediately clear how, or if, the medical bills will be paid.

Deputy District Attorney Chuck O’Rourke said the court has the option of holding a restitution hearing to address medical costs, but none has been scheduled.
