Get tough on offenders

Nine-year-old Jessica Lunsford went to sleep in her own home and was swept away in the middle of the night to be raped and murdered 150 yards from her home. A similar crime happened in Petaluma as I recall. Remember Polly Klaas?

The father of Jessica advocates that we should get mad. Are you mad?

The suspect is a registered sex offender, and was, according to news accounts, in a drug-induced state when he took the child. Nevada County has 108 registered sex offenders. Nevada County has a meth problem. Do we have a potential kidnap and murder of a child in our future, here at home?

A woman abducted from an ATM in Glenbrook, in broad daylight, almost lost her life. A UPS driver dies going about his business. Were drugs involved? Did someone try to kidnap a 9-year-old from Lyman Gilmore? Shall I continue?

Jessica’s father is correct, we need to get mad. It is time for laws to return to an administration of justice, not some bleeding-heart social experiment. The cost is too high.
