My job title: Senior accounting assistant for the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

What I do in my job: I pay bills, do payroll, journal entries, ordering and shipping, quarterly reports, and a lot of other accounting things.

Why my job is important to the public: I pay the bills, and I make sure the processing is done.

The special skills and talents I bring to my job: Paperwork doesn’t scare me, and I pay attention to details.

The best part of my job is: I get to see my friends coming and going, and it is a good team.

A day at work I’ll always remember was…: I worked in another department for 13 years, and the first day I got to work here, everybody came out to greet me. It would be like changing schools and having everyone welcome you when you come in.

How I got my job: They had an opening, and it was the same title that I had in another department. And then I had to do a background check.

How long I’ve been working here: Two years and one month.

My dream job would be: I don’t work for money. Its not that I don’t get paid, but when you are not a young person and you go into a department like this, it is good for your brain, and here it is very occupied.

My family: I have a husband, and he retired from the Nevada City School District last summer. And one daughter who graduated from NU.

My hobbies: I have been an adult Girl Scout for over 20 years. I am in the group called the service team and I am on the board, and I register Girl Scouts in Nevada County. At events, I am in the craft zone, and many Girl Scouts know me by my Girl Scout name, Pinecone.

When I was a kid, I…: enjoyed travelling because we did a lot of travelling. I grew up in Southern California and have a PT cruiser.

My dream vacation: Even though I grew up in Southern California, I never went to Catalina. I would love to go to Catalina, Alaska and Hawaii.

If a movie were made of my life, I would be played by: It would have been Patty Duke.

The people who have made the biggest difference in my life: One is my husband; we’ve been married since 1966. Also, my aunt Hazel Morgan. I had a boss at Starkist Foods in Southern California named Hope Collins. All my grandparents. My family was very good for me.

My hero: My biggest hero is God.

The best book I’ve read lately… I am into the crafts books. It could be almost anything – it depends on the theme for the Girl Scouts.

I like living in Nevada County because…: I like the atmosphere. I like the colors that are here, and I like seeing folks in the big city that you may not see. Like you may see your doctor anywhere. The folks in big cities aren’t as gracious as they are here. They are just great.
