Fire assistance

I appreciated your coverage of the vegetation fire in French Corral on the July 28th front page. We were all very fortunate for a rapid, aggressive and effective response by all of the agencies involved.

I want to point out that the Penn Valley Fire Department was actually some of the first units on the scene, within minutes of the dispatch. Penn Valley Fire sent two engines and a water tender, with which their crews picked up and held the right flank of the fire.

Penn Valley Fire played a large role in the successful suppression of this fire, and it is important to recognize the contributions and value of auto- and mutual-aid agreements between neighboring departments. Also, not mentioned in the article was the Tahoe Hotshots, whose assistance was greatly appreciated, as well.
