‘Fill the Boot for Burns’ Feb. 22

Nevada County firefighters will be “filling the boot” in Nevada County to raise funds to support burn programs.

The drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Feb. 22. Drop a donation into the boot of a firefighter at one of the district locations, call 739-8525 or go online at

The “Fill the Boot for Burns” locations are:

— K-Mart – McKnight Rd.

— Raleys – Freeman Lane.

— Fowler Shopping Center – Nevada City Highway

— Lake Center – Combie Road

— Cedar Ridge Y at the Market – Highway 174

— Rough and Ready Highway – the Rough & Ready Mall

— Pleasant Valley Rd. – Lake Wildwood Dr.; Wildwood Center

— Ridge Rd. at Nevada City Highway

All proceeds from this event go to benefit the Firefighters Burn Institute, a nonprofit burn foundation started by Sacramento-area firefighters almost 30 years ago after a fiery airplane crash into a Farrell’s ice cream parlor.

Donations will be used to improve burn treatment in local burn units; to fund burn-recovery programs, including Firefighter Kids Camp for young burn survivors; and to support burn and fire prevention outreach programs.
