Fear and hate fanned unneccessarily

Upon reviewing the recommendations coming from the NH 2020 committees, my first thought is, why is there such a fuss? In the case of the Forestry Working Group, the recommendations are based upon maintaining the vitality of our local timber industry and improving fire safety. The committee suggests giving property owners incentives for keeping their lands clear of excess fuels and making it easier for the small landowner to harvest timber. As more recommendations (and that’s all they are) come out and continue to point toward moderate enhancements of our safety and quality of life, we’re going to find that all the hype around NH 2020 is without substance.

People like Drew Bedwell have caused a lot of unnecessary fear and discontent, and I resent them for pitting neighbor against neighbor over nothing. Vigilance is necessary, but fear and hate don’t belong here in Nevada County.
