Every voter gets a voice

What groups of people might offer strong support for NH 2020 and for those supervisors that stand behind it? Probably people who live in apartments and rely on parks and protected forested areas for their daily dose of nature. Maybe also people who own houses on small lots would have that same access to nature. Young families might like to see some clean water and open space intact for their children to grow up with. Most likely the newcomers who worked hard and saved every penny to be able to move to this great paradise would like to see the area preserved and growth properly managed.

These groups of people and many others are not included in the Moore Methods Inc. poll. As reported “Moore’s firm `selected’ those polled using a stratified random sample from Nevada County voter registration forms.”

He eliminated everyone under 30 and anyone who wasn’t a Nevada County registered voter four years ago, leaving 64 percent of those polled having lived here more than 10 years.

In other words, most of the people represented in that poll have multiple acres of land bought back when land was cheap in this area.

In America, each lawfully registered voter has a voice whether he owns 40 acres or rents a studio apartment, whether she be 18 years old or 45 years old.

Please, The Union, when you print a story representing a “random” sample of opinions, do not allow skewed or pointed surveys to be passed off as representing the opinions of Nevada County residents, otherwise you become nothing more than a vehicle for propaganda.

The real story was not what the survey showed, but why they chose to leave out of the survey so many of the voices of people who would not have opposed NH 2020.

I have not fully decided how I feel about NH 2020, but I have definite feelings about some of the tactics I see the opposition of NH 2020 using to try and overthrow the plan.
