Eroding liberties

What causes a president to start thinking he is above the law? When did we switch from a democracy to a monarchy? The fact is that Bush thinks he knows best and can do whatever he wants, including breaking the law and illegally wiretapping American citizens without due process. If Congress doesn’t hold him accountable, who will?

And for all who say, “it is in our best interests and for national defense,” are you really willing to let our basic rights be so easily eroded? Who can say where this will stop? The Bush administration has proven that they will do anything within their power to stop any and all opposition. Do you really think that they will have scruples to rein themselves in? Now Rove is threatening any Republican who breaks with the president with exile from the party. It is basic blackmail.

Wake up Nevada County and realize what a dangerous situation we now find ourselves, thanks to the Bush administration. What they are doing in the name of protecting our country is actually destroying our basic American liberties. Is this really the legacy you want to leave to future generations?
