Environmentalism at its worst

While environmental organizations may have originally existed simply to limit real pollution and keep public lands clean, “environmentalism” today is a radical movement designed to stunt all reasonable economic growth in order to protect the environment from man and his technological advancements. While it is important – in fact, necessary – to act against true polluters and protect individual rights, it is wrong to protect the environment without regard for man and his needs.

In California, we have seen two decades of suppression of construction of power plants. In the last four years, we have seen atrocious energy re-regulation, decreased generating capacity and blackouts, and significant increases in energy prices and government control/destruction of the industry. Environmentalists have curtailed industrial operations in many western states, greatly impacting numerous other industries and the overall economy. These are early warning signs of the dangers to human life deriving from environmental activism.

In Nevada County, we have also seen environmentalism’s ugly head. NH 2020 was an attempt to limit growth and restrict individual use of private property. The proposed Wild and Scenic designation is intended to restrict the use of water along private property. And the environmentalist supporters of such issues are opposed to the Property Rights initiative intended to simplify the process of being compensated for property devaluation resulting from environmental activism.

Environmental groups are not what you might imagine; today, they are leading an anti-industrial revolution! It is time to fight back.
