Efficient FBI

Jeff Ackerman’s piece on “Fahrenheit 9/11” (June 29) quoted a Newsweek report which stated that 22 of 26 members of the bin Laden family were interviewed by the FBI before being allowed to leave the U.S. on their special flight to Saudi Arabia. These interviews established that none of them had any links to terrorism!

Who said the FBI was not efficient in its investigations: It took only a few hours to determine beyond a reasonable doubt that 22 members of the bin Laden family, whose relative Osama had just orchestrated the greatest act of terrorism in history, were not connected in any way to this crime, and they were allowed to leave the country on Sept. 14, 2001! If interviews of suspected terrorists take only a few days at most, why are thousands being held at Guantanamo Bay for years?

Michael Moore is right: there had to be a secret deal between the Bush administration and the bin Laden family that enabled these people to leave the country so quickly after the attack. We just cannot prove it – yet.
