Earth Day 2006

Yes, there is an Earth Day celebration this year – rain or shine – from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 23. The theme is “Earth Day 2006 – Kids Are the Future,” benefiting the Nevada County Youth Center, scheduled to open later this year.

We are excited to again hold it at upper Loma Rica Ranch, next to the lovely, historic Lake MacBoyle, with its 1930s Gazebo and World’s Fair Fountain. This free celebration features ecological displays, Earth-friendly booths and vendors, food, and kids crafts. Enjoy poets, speakers and live music, in a beautiful grassy, oak-shaded meadow perfect for a picnic.

The Nevada County Greens, BriarPatch Co-Op, SYRCL, KVMR radio 89.5 FM and others are creating a great event.

SYRCL will present a youth-led children’s craft area with river and salmon-inspired art and performance fun.

KVMR will broadcast the festivities live, with music from the Celtic Wonder Band, Lorraine Gervais Jazz Trio, Objects in the Mirror and Power of 12 (formerly Real George). The Ranch will rock.

Local artists, crafters, youth groups or school classes, Earth-friendly businesses, or food folks who want to be involved can find the booth application at http://www.nevadacountygreens.org. Or call 277-0610. And think sun.
