The 49er Breakfast Rotary Club of Nevada City has announced the selection of community groups and projects that will benefit through the 13th Annual Gold Country Duck Race.

The duck race, which this year carries the election year theme “Vote Duck,” is 49er Rotary’s largest annual fund-raising event, bringing in several thousand dollars each year to support school and community projects.

This year’s race is scheduled on the rapids of Deer Creek from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, as part of Nevada City’s annual Constitution Day Celebration. The race offers chances to win a $5,000 cash first prize, $1,000 second prize, $500 third prize and many other prizes.

Scheduled to receive financial support from this year’s race are Seven Hills School, Pleasant Valley School, Deer Creek School, Bitney Springs Charter High School, Friendship Club, Lutz Center Adult Day Services, Boy Scout Troop 855, Venture Crew 855, 49er Breakfast Rotary community service projects and the Nevada City Constitution Day weekend celebration.

Anyone may enter the race by adopting racing ducks at $5 each. Tickets are available from 49er Rotarians and various beneficiary groups. For more information, call the Duck Hotline at 272-DUCK.
