Doolittle does harm

I understand that elected officials represent the majority of their constituency as best they can, but I do not understand the discrimination and lies that pass for morality and faith from Congressman Doolittle. His Mormon faith has nothing to do with his job as my elected government official, yet it seems to infiltrate his agenda completely.

His stand on the Federal Marriage Amendment is part of his, and many others’, “Christian” agenda to enforce their religious values on me and my family. If they were Muslims, enforcing Muslim law, how would all of the people who praise his “faith” feel then? What would all the “Got Purpose?” bumper sticker Christians in Nevada County be saying if women became property to save the traditional values of our society? No, it’s only OK because he’s towing his discrimination with their line.

But discrimination, under the eyes of any god, is still discrimination. And government exists not to enforce religious beliefs but to offer necessary law enforcement and services without discrimination to all citizens. Making my marriage invalid and making sure that I will never be able to have another one doesn’t make us stronger as a country, it sets us back.
